Suit Colors

For a while we have been debating over what colors to use for the suits on the MFM forum.  I finally decided that we should not do anything fancy with the colors and stick to slightly edited Metroid: Zero Mission sprites.  The product was this:
The Image compares the older sprites, from FSMR, for Samus with the new ones which are only slightly changed from Zero Mission.

Screenshots!!!

Hello readers, well didn't I say I would get some screenshots.  Here they are!  Unfortunatly they are not of Ceres since Kenji Imatake, the best spriter on team, has not finished making them look nice.
I did not program the map data yet so that is why you see a blank mini-map.

See you next post!

Progress!

Hey readers, we have begun the creation of the Ceres Station.  There is very little variation in the area's layout from the one in Super Metroid but the first shaft is longer and a few rooms are slightly different sizes.  I decided to use the resticted lab's tileset (from Metroid fusion) as the Ceres tileset in the game.  It gives the area a similar atmosphere as to the one in Super Metroid.  Doors are nice and new from Metroid Fusion's beta and go nicely with the rest of the station.  One of our spriters and level designers is adding the background fences and the fancy stuff like that to the station.  It still lacks a countdown and a Ridly mini-boss but they will come next.

Expect some screen shots in my next post.

Engine Stuff

Our current engine is not complete but contains the following.  We have working physics and 8 different slopes.  It contains MZM style directional aiming that is glitchless (so 8 directions).  Walljumping is incorperated into the platforming engine.  The HUD is 90% complete all it needs is a minimap.  The HUD displays the energy, amounts of missiles and power bombs, and the beams that are active.  We have all beams working and beam mixing is incorperated.  There is a morph ball function with bombs and a spider ball.  We are at a stand still with the engine right now because the programmer is on vacationand should be untill he returns.  Update you then.

Clearing Things Up

I think that I was not very clear about the games purpose, story, etc.  Project Zebes is a remake of Super Metroid takes its place in the metroid story.  It is a game in which you explore Zebes finding classic and new powerups and fighting new and old bosses.  The game will be done in Zero Mission style so as to not make it look like another Super Metroid hack.  This game takes elements from all of the metroid classics and incorperates them into one planet.  This game also has a challenge element, some of the other 2D metroid games were too easy so this one will be harder to complete.

Welcome

Project Zebes is a metroid fangame that is dedicated to the recreation of super metroid in a larger and more interesting planet Zebes.  The game will contain elements that were present in both Metroid Zero Mission and Super Metroid plus some completly new ones.  I do not have any screenshots of the project yet due to not having finished graphics or a complete engine but I will post them when I do.

Most of you are familiar with the areas in Zebes but I am making a few changes so you might want to read this.  Crateria was small in Zero Mission and in both games only two or three rooms showed the surface of Zebes, I plan to make a larger part of crateria show the planets surface (like eight or nine large rooms).  The Surface will be under constant rain and be slightly darker than in other games.  Lower Crateria will consist of caverns and chozo ruins much like in Super Metroid.  Brinstar will consisr of three main areas.  Green Brinstar the largest of these areas is mostly overgrown with sparcely scattered ruins.  The second area, Red Brinstar, is rocky and contains a maze of passages and shafts with a flooded south.  Metal Brinstar, the final of the three, is a large area condisting of slightly overgrown metal this area resembles kraid's hidout in Super Metroid.  Duron is a new area that replaces the wrecked ship from Super Metroid.  Duron is a desert containing an enormous Chozo ruin complex and the destroyed remains of the space pirate mother ship.  Just below the surface is a catacomb of damp tunnels leading to some centeral location.  Maridia will not change much in layout from super metroid but will be taller and more maze like.  Norfair the  closest area to the planet's core is full of molten rock and srange bubble-like formations.  Lower Norfair is home to a vast complex of chozo ruins and a space pirate hidaway.  Another new area is th towers they lie in the east and the west and were created by the chozo.  The eastern tower colapsed and was rebuilt by the space pirates.  Tourian, the final area, is larger than all of the past Tourians and contains a SR-388 like breeding ground for metroids to evolve into Alphas, Gammas, Zetas, Omegas, and a Queen.

I will post again when there is more to say.
